Matteo Montani (Roma, 1972) is a distinguished contemporary artist and cultural innovator with a prolific career spanning over two decades. After studying at the Academies of Fine Arts in Urbino and Rome, Montani began exhibiting his work in the late 1990s and early 2000s. During this period, he established himself as an emerging artist, winning the Suzzara Prize and participating in the Biennale of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean in Sarajevo. His career rapidly progressed with significant exhibition activities in private galleries and public spaces, culminating in an invitation to the fifteenth Quadriennale in Rome in 2008. Montani has held solo exhibitions in esteemed museums such as the Museum of Art in Ravenna, H.C. Andersen Museum in Rome, Museum Am Dom Wuerzburg in Germany, and the Royal Palace of Caserta. His remarkable contributions to the art world have been recognized through awards including the Michetti Prize in 2018 and the prestigious PAC 2020, established by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Contemporary Creativity. His works have been exhibited internationally, including at Fabio Sargentini’s L’Attico Gallery in Rome, Luca Tommasi Gallery in Milan, Bonomo Gallery in Rome and Bari, Elkon Gallery in New York, Luisa Catucci Gallery in Berlin, among others. Montani’s art is included in prominent public and private collections such as the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome, the Wuerzburg Cathedral in Germany, the Katara Art Collection in Doha, the Four Seasons in Seoul, Shibaura Tower in Tokyo, Unicredit collection in Milan, the VAF Stiftung in Frankfurt, Vatican Museums, and the China International Culture Association. Beyond his artistic practice, Montani actively engages in interdisciplinary and cultural projects. Notably, he participated in the Art & Technology Biennale: Symbiotic Cosmos – Cultural Ecological Reconstruction Amidst Technological Iteration (October 18 – December 18, 2025) at the Yuhang Art Museum in Hangzhou, China. He also contributed to Endless Mountains: My Story with the Silk Road at the Dunhuang International Convention and Exhibition Center in Dunhuang, Gansu, China. Among his recent impactful works is an intervention on the external wall of the Manzù Museum in Ardea, where he created a dynamic rainbow that appears only when the wall is wet, symbolizing the cycle of nature and transformation. Montani’s innovative approach continues to explore the intersections of art, ecology, and technology, inspiring conversations on cultural and environmental sustainability.
